lyrics
Hayda liu-liu, little one
Hayda liu-linku
Hayda liu-liu, beautiful one
Hayda liu-linku.
When you wake, you shall have
All the pretty little horses
Paints and bays,
Dapples and greys
All the pretty little horses.
Hayda liu-liu, little one
Hayda liu-linku
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry
Go to sleep, my little baby.
The father’s in the forest, my child
He’ll bring you a little bird
A little bird, my child
Hayda liu-liu, little one
Hayda liu-linku
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry
Go to sleep, my little baby.
Way down yonder in the meadow
There's a poor little lambie
Butterflies round his eyes
Poor thing's crying for his mammy.
The father’s in the field, my child
He’ll bring you a little flower
A little flower, my child
Hayda liu-liu, little one
Hayda liu-linku
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry
Go to sleep, my little baby.

Ten years after making his professional debut in the world premiere of Philip Glass's opera Appomattox, Anthony Russell is now a vocalist, composer and arranger specializing in Yiddish art and folk song.
This is a richly layered composition- the music is wonderful- and the texts really work well with it. It feels like it's pushing Yiddish music forward while staying connected to the past.
I don’t have the gift of prophecy so I can’t predict the future- but I would not be surprised if years from now this will cunt among the classics of the repertoire of Yiddish music. Shamma Boyarin
One of my favourite musical discoveries in a while. These musicians are seriously talented. I can’t help imagining that there would have been a whole significant subculture of Yiddish psych rock like this in a different, kinder universe. For now, this is a window into that world that might have been. And I love every second of it. Audrey
